When Trinket headed towards the kitchen Kaela takes her leave. She didn't want any part of what was about to occur once Oleg got a hold of her friend. After another delivery of herbs, she heads to the clothing shop to talk to Silvia, an elderly human who also shares in the gift of spellcasting.

The little bell above the door sounds when Kaela enters and Silvia looks up from the book she was reading. "Why hello, sweet Kaela. Has your father found out anything else about the missing children?"

"If he has he wouldn't tell me. I'm the wrong gender, which I'm thankful for. Caeden is doing some searching on his own though, but don't tell my father." Kaela replies as she looks at some average cloaks until the patron takes his leave.

A couple minutes of silence passed before the patron left and Kaela locked the door. "Did you get the materials I asked you for?"

"Of course, sweet Kaela." Silvia replies before she leads the way into the back room, where she keeps all her arcane goodies. Kaela follows and walks over to Silvia's lab, viewing the ingredients for a potion she was going to make...with the old woman's help, of course.

A couple hours later, with everything mixed and ready for the burner, Kaela informs Silvia she'll be back in a few. The old woman already knew she'd have to keep an eye on the important stage of potion creation but that was fine. She enjoyed teaching the young half elf what her mother would have taught, if she was still alive.

With a few minutes to spare before noon, Kaela enters the inn and looks around for Trinket. As always, the halfling wasn't seen but that didn't mean she wasn't there. Kaela finds an empty table near a window and takes a seat. "Can't sneak up on me with all this light." She utters quietly, waiting for Trinket or Caeden.

It was Caeden who entered first. She waves as he scans the room. Then points over to the bar, letting him know she hasn't ordered yet.

The rest of the morning proceeds without further interruptions until shortly before noon when Zander hears a loud thump followed by growling coming from out back. Zander grabs his staff and moves as quickly as he can out through the kitchen door to the alley he left Kessa in. Upon getting outside Zander is shocked to see a human lying on the ground with Kessa's right front paw pinning his chest down and her face mere inches from his, growling. Zander is about to call off Kessa when he sees a dropped dagger near the man's right hand. Zander hobbles over and uses his staff to knock the dagger away from the human.

"Kessa alu inbau Oleg. Usstan orn kyorl lil wael." As Kessa starts to draw back from the human, the man makes a lunge for his blade. Zander swiftly slams his staff down hard on the man's hand as his fingers close over the dagger's hilt. The human lets out a cry of pain as he yanks his broken hand back. Zander stands over the human while Kessa goes into the inn through the open door. A moment later Kessa emerges from the kitchen dragging Oleg in tow by his apron.

"Let go of me you damnable cat or I swear I'll.." Oleg stops midsentence as he sees Zander standing over the human. "What's going on here lad?"

"This drunken idiot tried to attack Kessa and I thought it would be better to let you deal with him instead of feeding him to her." Zander says as he picks up the human's dagger and hands it to Oleg before heading back inside with Kessa. Once inside Zander grabs a chunk of leftover ham from breakfast and tosses it to Kessa. "You did good girl, enjoy your treat."

Caeden ignores his sister's demand to order drinks from the bar and heads over to her table instead. "Lilly will be around soon enough. You can wait a few more minutes." As he sits down Casteal enters and heads towards the kitchen, but not before glancing over at Caeden and giving him a slight nod of approval. Caeden nods back and begins to tell his sister what their father told him earlier.

Casteal continues on and heads into the kitchen and sees Zander with his tiger, but no Oleg. The elven proprietor gives a look of disapproval, but says nothing of the situation. "I'll be in my office. Tell Oleg I want to see him." Before Zander could explain, Casteal walks out and down the hall.

Trinket was happy. She got a full belly, a few extra coins, and already remembered to tip Zander earlier, before telling Jory she had to find some work.

"Before you go, don't forget to pay your part of the bill. I only said I'd buy you a drink." He says before she got a chance to leave.

"Ok, ok. I'll go pay Lilly." She heads off, tugs at Lilly's barmaid outfit and hands her two silver. "This is for you, miss Lilly. Jory said he'll pay up in a few minutes. Tell Zander I'll see him around lunch time." Then she rushes off and out the front door before Jory had a chance to notice.

Throughout most of the morning Trinket did a few simple jobs here and there, for a copper piece or two, while listening to the talk of the townsfolk. The main topic was the missing children. It's been the main topic for some time now and she did wonder what the founding fathers were doing about it, but that wasn't her problem, unless someone asked for her help.

It was almost noon and Trinket was getting hungry. As she headed back to the inn, wondering what goodies Zander cooked up for lunch, she spotted Caeden heading in the same direction. This was a no-no. She had to beat him there. Not to brag to him about, but just to prove to herself that her little hairy feet could outdo his half elven steps.

By the time Caeden opened the front door of the inn and entered, she was almost on his heels. She ducks behind the closest table before the door closes and looks up at the partons that were seated nearby.

Lucky for her, she knew them.

"Hey Tanum. Hey Thurmun. Don't mind me. Just taking a look-see." She says as they glance down at her and shake their heads.

Not a few moments later the proprietor walks in and heads towards the kitchen. This wasn't unusual, after all, it was lunch time. But, to nod at Caeden and for him to nod back? Something was up and Trinket just had to find out what it was.

She looks over at Caeden, who then starts talking with Kaela, before darting across the room and to the corner of the bar. As the proprietor reaches the kitchen door, she darts behind the bar and takes a peek down the short hall. A few moments later he heads off to his office and Trinket makes her way into the kitchen. Her first thought was that Zander got fired, when she saw Kessa was in there with him.

"Did the owner fire you cause of Kessa?" Questions the worried looking halfling, who forgot all about finding out what was going on with the noddings.

"So father and the others believe it's some sort of child sacrifice? And that this evil is produced by arcane magic? Seriously Caeden, you don't believe that magic is evil, do you? Just because you found a doll made of twigs and vines with humanoid hair intertwined doesn't mean a thing. If this was the work of an arcane spellcaster, the spellcaster would be the one who would have the doll. As in scrying, where you do need a piece from the person you're trying to view. It just doesn't make sense."

Kaela then remembers the first story she ever heard from Morlen the scribe. He aided some adventures and with his help they defeated an ancient black wyrm. Not that this case was similar, but if Morlen is really telling the truth about his life and his magicks, then Morlen might be the best elderly elf to talk to.

"I know our father and the other founding fathers despise arcane magic, and the only reason they allow Morlen to tell his stories to the children is because he tells them in ways that will help them understand what dangers lie in wait beyond the grove. But... if Morlen's tales are true we should speak with him, even if the founding fathers won't."

Magic corrupts the mind. The more you have, the more you want more. This was driven into Caeden's mind by his father after the death of his mother.

"I'm not my father. I don't believe magic is evil, but I do believe it causes chaos. Look what it did to our mother. She died because of it. That's why I haven't told father about you sneaking off into the barn, or spending time with Silvia making potions. In regards to speaking with Morlen? I think it's a bad idea. There are things about the old elf which the founding fathers won't speak of and they don't want us to bother him with questions."

After Lilly comes over and takes their order she leaves in a huff, mumbling under her breath,  "two glasses of fucking water. Cheap ass farmers' kids."

Caeden then continues. "Although, maybe we can get someone else to talk to Morlen. Like your halfling friend? The founding fathers don't have to know everything, you know."
